Close Encounter

Close Encounter is one of my favorites. The inspiration was a wonderful day that I shared with my late, great dog, Shadow Boy, and a butterfly that visited us in our backyard in Alexandria, Virginia.

The butterfly communed with Shadow Boy for over an hour flitting and flying but never going too far away. It knew that this gentle dog would never harm it.

This piece is about tenderness and gentleness and remembering how important it is to treat those close to you with kindness and compassion. This piece has inspired more than one pet portrait commission.
